Understanding and Activating Your Hedge of Thorns

If you have studied the hedge of protection and the hedge of thorns and are now ready to activate them in your life--be sure to know and are committed to keeping them within the Biblical guidelines.  Here are some basic Biblical principles about the hedge of thorns to guide you in your victorious walk...

The hedge of protection is designed to keep safe that which is precious.  The hedge of thorns is designed to deal with one who has strayed and hopefully bring them back.   It is based on the teaching in the book of Hosea  when he married a woman who turned out to be unfaithful.

Hosea married Gomer who later turned to harlotry and is a parallel to the nation of Israel turning to Baal and other gods.  Here are Biblical descriptions of what ensued.

Hosea 2:6, 7  "Therefore I will hedge up her way with a hedge of thorns.  And I will build a wall against her so that she cannot find her paths.   And she will pursue her lovers, but she will not overtake them; and she will seek them, but will not find them.  Then she will say, I will go back to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now."

From these verses, we find the PURPOSE OF THE HEDGE OF THORNS...

Verse 6  "So that she cannot find her paths."

Verse 7  "pursue her lovers but not overtake them."

Verse 7  "seek and not find them"

Verse 7  "I will go back to my first husband"

Always use SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES to guide you in the utilization of the hedge of thorns or the hedge of protection.  Here are some Biblical principles to guide you:

*  Determine which hedge is needed.

*  Thorns keep evil people and/or evil forces away from the one being protected.

*  Can be done with or without their knowledge and/or consent.

*  Be objective and honest in your evaluations and applications.

*  Understand the "cycle of sin."  Mind, thoughts, eyes, relationships, and outside influences.

*  Be prepared for the reactions:  anger, guilt, bitterness, desperation, severed relationships--but remember there is also HOPE that the hedges will work!

As you erect your hedge of thorns, keep these guidelines in mind:

*  Be totally under God's leadership.

*  Begin and end with prayer and saturate every step of faith in prayer.

*  Stand in the gap for the person in the hedge.

*  Stay the course and let the hedge have its result.   Don't give up easily!

*  Be prepared for their return.   This is not always going to be an easy step.

*  Move back into the hedge of protection after the purpose of the hedge of thorns has been accomplished.

Good luck and may God guide and lead you into your adventure into faith living!

  1. I forwarded this to my sister who learned as a young woman as I did to pray the hedge of protection! It is good to have refreshers in our spiritual walks.
